Lowville, NY- Residents in the
village of Lowville will be casting ballots for mayor and a trustee
position in a special election scheduled for March 18, 2026.
Last January,
elected mayor Joe Beagle
resigned from the position. On February 03, 2025 the Village
of Lowville Board of Trustees held a special meeting and appointed deputy
mayor and trustee Dan Slamon to fill the position of mayor
until a special election to be held in March of 2026. On February 26, 2025,
the Village of Lowville Board of Trustees appointed Jeanna
Judd to fill the vacant trustee seat created by the
appointment of Mr. Salmon as mayor.
We are now at the
point where potential candidates interested in filling the remainder of the
terms for the two positions can collect independent petition signatures to
appear on the ballot for the March 18th nonpartisan election. Petitions and
additional information can be obtained at the Lewis County
Board of Elections office, located at 7513 East State
Street in the village of Lowville. The first day to return completed
petitions to the Board of Elections is February 03, 2026
and the last day to submit completed petitions to appear on the ballot is
February 10, 2026.
Candidates for
mayor will be running to fill the remainer of Mr. Beagle’s original term,
running through March of 2027. Candidates for the trustee seat will be
running to fill the remainder of Mr. Salmon’s term which runs through March
of 2028.
After the
candidate petition filing period ends on February 10th, the ballot will be
set for the March 18th election.
