Lowville, NY- The Village of
Lowville Board of Trustees has filled the vacant seat on the board created
after trustee Dan Salmon was appointed to serve as mayor after the resignation of former mayor Joe Beagle at the end of
January.
Following an
executive session at the conclusion of their February 26 regular meeting,
trustees returned to unanimously appoint Jeanna Judd to fill the vacant
seat, effective immediately, until an election is held in March of 2026 to
fill the remainder of Mr. Salmon’s trustee term. Ms. Judd is the Finance
and Medical Billing Director at Lowville Medical Associates, according to
village officials, and was one of two candidates to formally seek the
appointment (officials did not disclose the other candidate).
During the
regular meeting, following a public hearing on the topics, a pair of local laws were adopted regarding
property tax exemptions for senior citizens and volunteer firefighters and
ambulance workers- repealing and replacing previous local laws with updated
exemptions. Additionally, trustees adopted a Body Worn Camera Policy for
the upcoming implementation of body worn cameras for officers at the
Lowville Police Department.
Public Hearings
were set for the March 19, 2025 meeting for Defense
and Indemnification of Officers and Employees policy and potential Tax Cap
Override. The 2025 organizational meeting was scheduled for April 02, 2025.
