Lowville, NY- Lowville Mayor
Joe Beagle has resigned from his position as mayor. In written notice provided
to the Village Clerk on January 28, Mr. Beagle stated he was resigning as
of the end of the day on January 31, 2025. No reason for the resignation
was given in the notice.
Mr. Beagle was
first elected as mayor in March of 2019 after previously serving as deputy
mayor and trustee on the Village Board of Trustees. He was re-elected to a
second four-year term as mayor in March of 2023.
The Village Board
of Trustees is expected to appoint a new mayor and possibly a new deputy
mayor during a special meeting scheduled for this afternoon. Trustee Dan
Salmon currently serves as deputy mayor. The appointments would fill the
positions until a special election is held in March of 2026, at which time
a candidate for mayor will be elected to fill the remainder of the term
which expires in March of 2027. The deputy mayor position is a position the
mayor appoints to one of the elected trustees.
This is a developing
story, and we’ll update as new information is received.
