Exford Murder Trial Start Postponed to February 28 at Request of District Attorney’s Office

Lowville, NY- The murder and arson trial for Shawn L. Exford, 30, of Lowville, scheduled to begin on September 20th, has been postponed.

 

Attorneys for both the prosecution and defense were in Lewis County Court this afternoon, where the request was made by Lewis County District Attorney Leanne Moser to postpone the start of the trial due to a “family situation” at the District Attorney’s office. With no objection from defense attorney John Hallett, Judge Daniel R. King granted the request, rescheduling the start date for the trial to February 28, 2022.

 

A Lewis County grand jury indicted Mr. Exford on a number of charges in March of 2020, including multiple counts of second-degree Murder and first-degree arson, top count felonies, in connection to a double fatal apartment house fire at 7525 S. State St. in Lowville on November 30. Two women were killed in the fire, Catherine A. Crego, 58, and Saratina R. Kilbourne, 42.

 

On Monday, Mr. Exford was released from Lewis County Jail after bail was posted on his behalf.
