Lowville Man Indicted on Murder Charges in Connection
to Double Fatal Apartment House Fire in Lowville on November 30

  • 4 counts of second-degree Murder, class A-1 felonies (2 counts each for
    each victim based on different "theories" of murder- see the full indictment
    link above for the difference in the murder charges.)
  • 2 counts of first-degree Arson, class A-1 felonies
  • 1 count of second-degree Arson, a class B felony
  • 6 counts of first-degree Reckless Endangerment, a class D felony

    Exford entered not guilty pleas to all counts and was remanded to the Lewis
    County Jail by Judge Daniel R. King on $500,000 cash bail or $1 million bond.
    He is scheduled to appear in court again on March 13.

    Prosecutors plan to conference the case with the defendant's attorney John
    Hallett next week.

    Officials held a press conference late this morning after the court appearance.
