Lowville, NY- Lowville Police
Chief Randy Roggie will be retiring as of June
29, 2023. Mr. Roggie has served as the chief of
the village police department since December 1, 2015, after serving many
years on the force prior to becoming chief. The retirement comes while an investigation into the department over alleged misconduct is ongoing.
Village mayor
Joseph Beagle announced the retirement during the public comment
portion of the June 21 meeting of the village board, after being
asked if rumors surrounding the chief’s retirement were true. Mayor Beagle
said the board has accepted Chief Roggie’s
retirement, effective June 29, 2023. In a phone conversation this morning,
Mayor Beagle said that he and Chief Roggie have
discussed a potential upcoming retirement over the last year.
After meeting in
executive session at the conclusion of Wednesday’s meeting, the board
appointed former Lewis County Sheriff L. Michael Tabolt
to serve as an “administrator” at the police department on an interim basis
until a new chief is hired. Mr. Tabolt will begin
today, June 26. Mayor Beagle said the Village will have six months to
complete the process of filling the Police Chief position on a permanent
basis. Mr. Tabolt served two terms as sheriff in
Lewis County, from January 1, 2004 to December 31,
2011.
