Water Watch Upgraded to Warning for Users of Lowville

Lowville, NY- The Village of
Lowville has upgraded the Water Watch that
was put in place on Tuesday to a Water Warning. A warning is
the second step in the four levels of water conservation measures
implemented by the New York State Department of Health, depending on the reserve
level in the village’s 3-million-gallon, 20 foot
reserve tank.
Once the reserve
tank reaches a level between 12 and 14 feet, a Watch is triggered. A level
between 10 and 12 feet initiates a Warning. An Emergency is declared when
the level drops below 10 feet and a Critical level is reached anytime the
reserve level falls below 8 feet.
Currently, the
level has fallen below 12 feet. With a Water Warning, users of the water
system are asked to continue conservation efforts and be cognizant of the
amount of water they are using. Officials ask that users refrain from any
projects or tasks that require any large amounts of water usage at this time. Water conservation measures are still
voluntary during the Water Warning, but if the reserve level continues to
fall mandatory measures will be enforced if a Water Emergency is declared.
