Lowville, NY- Residents in the village of Lowville will head to the polls on
March 19, when voters will choose a new mayor and elect two trustees to the
    village board.

In January, linkinglewiscounty.com first reported that current mayor Donna
Smith would not be seeking re-election to a third term.

At that time, we informed residents about the process involved for anyone
interested in running for the position, or that of village trustee.

Village elections are non-partisan, with all candidates running independent
from any party affiliation. To be placed on the ballot, potential candidates
needed to collect a minimum of 75 signatures from registered voters in the
village (of any party), and file their petitions with the Lewis County Board of
Elections by the close of business today.

With the filing deadline passed, we can report that two candidates will appear
on the ballot in the race for village mayor, while two others filed petitions for the
    two trustee seats.

Joseph Beagle, current trustee and deputy mayor in the village, and Eric J.
Virkler, executive director of the Lewis County Industrial Development Agency
and director of Lewis County's economic development department, will both
appear on the March ballot as candidates for mayor.

Current trustee Edward M. Murphy will seek re-election to his seat on the
board, with Mike Leviker, a deputy at the Lewis County Sheriff's Office, the
only other candidate to submit a petition for a board seat.

Voters also have the option of writing in a candidate for mayor and/or trustee(s)
    as well.

The election will take place on March 19th, with polls open from noon to 9 PM.

Terms for the newly elected officials will start  April 1. All three positions are
    four-year terms.

We'll have much more on the candidates in the coming days, as we offer each
candidate an opportunity to present their case to the voters.
