notice, following positive COVID-19 test results for two correction officers at the jail. Lewis County Sheriff Micheal Carpinelli told linkinglewiscounty.com that one of the correction officers received a positive test result for the virus earlier in the week, while the other positive result was confirmed today. Both were symptomatic cases and will be out of work while experiencing symptoms, according to the Sheriff. As essential employees, all other correction officers who may have had contact with either individual will continue working, unless they display symptoms of the virus, the Sheriff noted. Sheriff Carpinelli said that temperature checks will continue to be conducted at the beginning and end of each shift to screen employees, as has been the policy since the early stages of the pandemic in March. According to the Sheriff, none of the inmates at the jail have experienced any symptoms and inmates would only be tested for COVID-19 if they display symptoms. As a precautionary measure, visits to jail inmates will be suspended until further notice. Visits to the jail were previously suspended on March 12 and were reinstated on July 4th. |
