Lowville, NY- The Lewis County Board of Legislators awarded the bid contracts
for the Phase II construction of the Jefferson Community College Educational
Center in Lowville, following an executive session during last evening's meeting.

Legislators also approved increasing the total project amount from $4.25 million
to $6.5 million, after Phase II bids came in much higher than anticipated.

Bids were opened on August 24, with some contractors withdrawing bids after
they were submitted. Lewis County Attorney Joan McNichol took the board into
an executive session, citing attorney-client privilege, to inform the board of their
    legal options regarding the process.

Following the executive session, the full board came back into regular session to
award Phase II contracts as follows:

General Construction: DC Building Systems Inc.- $2,767,00.00
Electrical: AMP Electric R.S., LLC- $405,000.00
Mechanical: Lawman Heating & Cooling Inc.- $694,000.00
Plumbing: Lawman Heating & Cooling Inc.- $262,500.00

DC Building Systems Inc. was previously awarded the Phase I construction bid in
    the amount of $1,823,500.

We spoke with Lewis County Manager Ryan Piche this afternoon about the
increased costs of the project and some of the reasons behind it. We also
discuss how the County plans to make up the difference. You can see our full
