Lowville, NY- Bids were opened on Wednesday for the first phase of
construction on the proposed Jefferson Community College Educational Facility,
to be built near the Maple Ridge Center on the East Road in Lowville. Seven
companies submitted bids for the project.

What appeared initially as the low bid, a $1,437,500 bid from DEW Builders, Inc.,
out of Adams Center, was withdrawn by the company after a tabulation error was
    discovered.

This leaves DC Building Systems, Inc., out of Watertown, as the apparent low
bidder, with a bid amount of $1,823,500. The high bid was $2,028,000, submitted
by Con Tech Building Systems, Inc., located in Gouverneur.

"We feel like we received accurate and competitive bids that are within the
project’s budget," Lewis County Manager Ryan Piche said after an initial review
    following the bid opening.

The first phase includes site work, utilities and structural components of the
    project.

The legislative Ways and Means committee will review the bids on Tuesday,
ensuring everything requested is included. The committee will then make a
recommendation for the full board of legislators to vote on, either at their August
7 regular meeting or a special meeting of the board which could be called prior to
    that.
