Lowville- Another successful run of the Lewis County Fair went into the books Saturday with the completion of the final event- the popular Demolition Derby. The 195th edition of the county fair which started in 1821, featured fun for the entire family including Children's Activities, Agricultural Exhibits, Live Entertainment, Music, Midway Rides, Commercial Vendors, Fireworks, Games, Truck and Tractor Pull, Harness Racing, Antiques, Demolition Derby and a wide variety of food and attractions, to name a few. Fairgoers were made up of people of every age from all over Northern New York and beyond. For over a decade gate admission has been free, helping to make it one of the most popular fairs in the area.

The grandstand crowd went crazy seeing him and listening to his music. “This year was the best ever. The weather was great. The community supported us a 100 percent and we are very happy for that. Plans are already being made for next year’s fair which is being held the 19th through 23rd of July,” Fair President Doug Hanno said. Kathleen Lehman, 4-H Youth Educator, told us, “This year a lot of interactive activities helped draw in youth to experience "Learning by Doing," and then they were able to view projects on display.” “Even without chickens (due to the avian influenza) this year everything went smoothly and the kids enjoyed themselves.” Pauline Renggli, 4-H youth Educator, explained These ladies were busy dismantling the 4-H section of the fair Sunday morning. Carmelo Carbonaro, owner of New York Pizzeria in Lowville, said, “Excellent fair, many people and many new faces. This is the only fair I go to.” Mr. Carbonaro and his family were busy Sunday morning taking down and moving out his restaurant on wheels as many others were doing as well. Empty Food Alley. All that is left of the fair are memories that will last forever! A big hand must go out to the Fair Board, vendors, sponsors and the many volunteers for organizing and putting on such an excellent family-friendly community event. A lot of people donate their time to help make the fair so successful. Everyone enjoyed the fair, whether experiencing it for the first time, many times or seeing it through the eyes of their children or grandchildren. Although the fair is over, the memories of new and renewed friendships along with all the fun and excitement will last forever.
