Power Restored After Major Outage Thursday Night
07/16/15 11:10pm

Barnes Corners- Power has been restored to most of the people affected by the
outage that affected portions of Lewis County on Thursday night. The outage,
which started around 8 PM, affected approximately 1,700 in Lewis County and at
it's peak nearly 7,000 people were affected in the Watertown area according to
National Grid outage maps. Areas in Lewis County dealing with the outage
included Copenhagen, Barnes Corners and Pinckney. Most power was restored
    by just after 10PM.

A National Grid spokesman told 7 News anchor Jeff Nelson there was a breaker
failure inside the East Watertown sub-station on Gotham Street, triggering the
    outage.

"It was a catastrophic failure, the porcelain on the switch exploded," Matt
Gardner, one of National Grid's field crew members, told 7 News reporter Mae
    Roberts.
