Albany- A Lowville man and Harrisville woman were among the 199 new members at the 203rd session graduation ceremony from the Basic School of the New York State Police Academy. “After months of difficult classwork and training, the 203rd Basic School join the ranks of one of the finest police agencies in the world,” said New York State Police Superintendent Joseph A. D’Amico. “This graduation is the culmination of 26 weeks of hard work and perseverance. I congratulate all of our new Troopers and thank them for their continued dedication and determination.” Trooper Carl R. Schneider, a 26-year-old from Lowville, and Trooper Leah Malbeuf, of Harrisville, will be stationed at Troop D- Oneida and Troop B- Ray Brook respectively. The New York State Police barracks in Lowville is one of many stations which are a part of Troop D. "It's very humbling and it's a privilege," Trooper Schneider said in an interview provided by State Police. "The hardest part obviously is being away from your family," he answered when asked what the hardest part about being at the academy for the last six months was. Trooper Schneider has been chosen as the class representative for his graduating class. The New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association has sponsored the awarding of a firearm to the Member of the class who is selected by his or her peers to represent them during these exercises. The PBA presents the award in memory of Trooper John J. McKenna IV, who was killed in action in 2006, while serving his country as a Marine in Iraq. The graduation ceremony was held at the Empire State Plaza Convention Hall in Albany where the new troopers marched into the convention center in a procession lead by the New York State Police Pipe and Drum band. The National Anthem was performed by Trooper Christopher J. Conti II. The ceremony included a video presentation of the training received by all members of the 203rd Basic School Session.
