Town of Turin- A National Guard M117 personnel carrier from the 206th Military Police Company, Latham, NY, caught fire late yesterday morning on Route 12 near Lee Road. Three soldiers on board unsuccessfully tried to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher, and fire crews were called, according to Eric Durr, New York National Guard Spokesman. Route 12 was closed for a short time between Lee Road and Burdicks Crossing Road. The soldiers were returning to their home station after participating in a training exercise on Fort Drum. No soldiers were injured and a flatbed was dispatched to remove the vehicle from the scene. |
