Lewis County Public Health Has Successful Mass Dispensing Drill

The Lewis County Public Health team held a Mass Antibiotic

Dispensing Drill on Wednesday, in the main gymnasium at the Lowville Academy

and Central School.

The drill has been deemed a great success, with 308 people participating in the

event. The purpose of a drill of this nature is to ensure that Public Health can

provide and dispense life saving medications to all of Lewis County within forty-

eight hours of an emergency situation, such as an anthrax attack. Holding a drill

is a way to test the current Emergency Preparedness plans to see how well they

work.

" We proved we are ready for this type of emergency", Ashley Waite, Emergency

Preparedness Coordinator at Public Health told us via email. " We met the

throughput requirements to show we can handle the needs of our population",

she added.

By holding the drill some very minor changes could be implemented in the future,

to allow for even greater success, after the learning experience provided with a

practice run.

" I would like to thank everyone who participated the day of the drill, it could not

have been a success without you." Ms. Waite said.

There are no drill's of this nature proposed for the near future, but Public Health

anticipates they may hold another one in 2017.
