| Chance of Potentially Severe Thunderstorms Sunday Evening 07/18/15 10:30pm |
Lewis County- Sunday carries the chance for some potentially severe thunderstorms in the county, especially during the evening hours.
Buffalo, a very warm and sultry airmass will move across the area on Sunday. Temperatures are forecast approach some of the warmest of the season to date, with highs in the mid-eighties. Because of the humidity, the 'feels like' temperature will be much warmer and could approach advisory levels. According to the National Weather service, once heat indices approach or reach 100 degrees, an advisory is issued. The heat index is a formula taking into account the actual temperature and relative humidity to obtain a 'feels like' temperature. These conditions can increase heat related illnesses in people performing outdoor activities.
Service, the oppressive heat is likely to be accompanied by potential thunderstorms late in the afternoon and evening Sunday, some of which could approach severe levels. A map shows the most likely chance for severe thunderstorms in the county should be between 7 PM and 9 PM. The storms could produce gusty winds, small hail and heavy downpours. The weather service states that the greatest concern with the storms is potential for slow moving torrential downpours, which could lead to localized flooding in some areas.
