Thomas A. “Tom” Leichtweis
 MARTINSBURG/LOWVILLE- Thomas A. “Tom”
Leichtweis, 71, of Pine Grove Rd., passed away peacefully on the evening of
Monday, September 14, 2026 at his home.
Born in Lowville
on September 9, 1955, he was the youngest child of the late Gerald and
Janis Dale Leichtweis. Tom graduated from Lowville Academy in 1974 where he
played basketball.
After graduation,
Tom worked for Payne Jones. In May of 1977, he went to work for H & K
Dairy Supply, later becoming H & R Dairy Supply. Tom purchased the
business he’d worked at for years and owned and operated Tom’s Dairy
Supply, in Martinsburg, for 30 years. He loved doing what he did, servicing
hundreds of farms across several counties in upstate and central New
York.
Tom married
Connie J. Makuch on November 5, 1977.
He had a goofy
and contagious personality who always found the good in people.
Tom loved
children and took his passion for baseball and volunteered his time
coaching Farm League, Tom’s Dairy Milkers, and Little League, Tom’s Dairy
Supply, for 15 years. He continued to sponsor teams and attend their games
after his coaching ended. Tom developed some good little ball players, was
a successful coach, and he loved every second of it.
He is survived by
his wife, Connie, a daughter and her husband, Courtney and Mike Heim of
Morrisville, three grandchildren, Allison, Jacob, and Chelsea, two sisters,
Linda Leichtweis of Lowville, Wendy and Bernie Rook of Vernon Center, a
mother-in-law, Marie Makuch of Denmark, four sister-in-laws,
Brenda and Mike Snow of Canton, Emma and Neil Birchenough of Lowville,
Christine and Bobby Domena of Waddington, and Bonita Makuch and her partner
Sheila Traviss of Los Angeles, CA, a brother-in-law, Max and Patsy Makuch
of Denmark, and several nieces, nephews, and close friends who enjoyed his
presence.
Tom’s most prized
possessions are his children and grandchildren. He loved, adored, and
cherished them more than anything. His favorite things to do were to have
his grandchildren overnight at his house to spend one on one time with them, and watch them play sports. He rarely missed their
games. He made several memories with each and every
one of them that they will hold dear to their hearts forever.
In addition to
his parents, Tom will be joining his sons, Jacob Leichtweis and Peter
Leichtweis, his brother John Leichtweis, a nephew Justin Leichtweis, infant
nephews Michael Snow and Jacob Birchenough, and his father-in-law, Peter
Makuch in Heaven.
The family would
like to thank the following for their excellent care and compassion for Tom
these last couple of months before his passing: Dr. Scott Mitchell, Lewis
County General Hospital ER, Lewis County Search & Rescue, Wynn Hospital
ER, Wynn Hospital 7th floor staff, and Lewis County Hospice.
The funeral
service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday September 26, 2026
at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville. Calling hours are from 11:00 a.m. -1:00
p.m. prior to the funeral service, at the funeral home. Burial will be
private and at the convenience of the family.
A luncheon at
Lewis County Marine Corps League Det. #754,
Lowville, will immediately follow the funeral service, all
are welcome. Any food donations may
be taken directly to the Marine Corps League on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be
