 Jana M. Ingersoll (Rhubart) passed away
at Lewis County General Hospital, September 10, 2026, with her family by
her side. Born in Lowville on January 12, 1961, she was the youngest
of Marguerite Loretta (Archer) and Lawrence Edward Rhubart’s seven
children. She enjoyed a simple life on the family dairy farm in West
Martinsburg. Jana was a good student and an athlete, playing
basketball, softball, and field hockey before graduating from
Lowville Academy in 1979.
Her studies at
Clarkson University were temporarily interrupted in August,
1980, after a car accident resulted in a spinal cord injury. During
her rehab and throughout much of her life, Jana, with the support of her
loving parents, siblings, and extended family, cultivated a life of
independence and freedom. She graduated from Clarkson in 1984 in
Technical Writing. She worked for Hirschey and Associates in Lowville
and for Niagara Mohawk in Lowville and Watertown. In the last several
years of her life, Jana owned JCT Truck Caps with her ex-husband, Tim.
Jana loved
children, especially her nieces and nephews, her stepdaughter, and, later
in life, their children. Her niece, Jill Ryan, was a devoted
caregiver throughout her final years. Jana found peace in nature and
the beauty of Lewis County. For many years, she tended elegant
gardens in her raised beds. She loved the country-rock sounds of ‘70s
bands. For most of her adult life, she travelled to Rochester several times
a year to visit her sisters and their families, attend holiday gatherings,
and shop in any home goods store she could find. She enjoyed baking
and the elaborate plot of a good tv series. She was a consummate
night owl. Jana had a full and tender heart toward all animals and
the many pets she cared for throughout her life. Though she endured
many challenges, she never lost faith in the simple beauty of nature and
the strength of family bonds.
Jana is
predeceased by her parents; her sister and brother-in-law Pat and Fred
Salsburg; brothers Ray, Larry, and Tim Rhubart; brothers-in-law Tim Adams
and John Alfano; niece Renee Byer, and great-nephew Richie Fischer.
She is survived by sisters Connie Alfano of Walworth, NY, and Dorothy
Adams of Fairport, NY; by Tim Ingersoll; sisters-in-law Mary Rhubart,
Joanne Rhubart, and Jane Myers. She is also survived by many nieces,
nephews, and extended family.
Family and
friends may call at the Sundquist Funeral Home on Thursday, September
17th, from 11 am until 1 pm, with a memorial service at 1 pm with Rev.
Mr. Thomas J. Yousey, Deacon, officiating. Burial will be private in
West Lowville Rural Cemetery.
