Gilbert R. Steria II

 

LOWVILLE- Gilbert R. Steria II, 51, of East Road passed on Sunday afternoon, September 13, 2026 while hiking in Inlet, NY with his church youth group.

 

Gilbert is survived by his mother, Savilla Steria of Lowville; his siblings, Gabriella Steria of Lowville, Galen and Katie Steria of Auburn, Nebraska, Gretchen and Enos Yoder of Adams; five nephews, two nieces and three grand nephews; several aunts, uncles and cousins.  He is predeceased by his father, Rev. Gilbert R. Steria and a stillborn sister, Glenda Steria. 

 

Gilbert was born on May 14, 1975 in Watertown, NY, a son of the late Gilbert R. and Savilla R. Zehr Steria.  He received his GED and attended Living Hope Ministries, Watson, NY.  Gilbert worked on the family farm until going to work for Mike Lyndaker logging for several years. He then bought the family farm in 2004. After farming, he worked at some other jobs locally before returning to logging.  Gilbert has worked for Richard Martin Logging, Boonville, cutting and skidding logs since 2009.  He also worked in his sugarbush every spring.  Gilbert played softball on the church and county leagues for 30 years.  He enjoyed ice skating and hockey, walking in the woods and hunting.

 

Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Naumburg Mennonite Church.  The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Naumburg Mennonite Church, with a burial to follow in the Croghan Mennonite Cemetery following. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to River Valley Mennonite School, 5473 Route 410, Castorland, NY 13620.
