Lyons Falls ALIVE Community Service Award for 2026
 Lyons Falls, NY- On September 18th,
at the Lyons Falls Food Truck Friday Event, Shela Luther was the recipient
of the Lyons Falls ALIVE Community Service Award. Since 2007, Lyons Falls ALIVE has honored
an exceptional community member each year with its Community Service Award.

Shela is a
remarkable person and an outstanding member of our community. On August 15,
1954, she married the love of her life, Nelson Luther. Together, they
raised six children: Mindon (Jane), Marilyn (Raymond)
Armfield, Barry (Patty), Sherry (Peter) Mathis,
Kermit (Neni) and Kevin.
Shela is a loving
mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother whose
devotion to family has remained at the heart of her life.
Over the years,
Shela enjoyed many hobbies, especially bowling in Lyons Falls and Boonville
and crocheting. She generously donated her crocheted creations to local
organizations and shared them as gifts with family and friends.
Shela also served
her community through her work. She was a substitute at the Post Office and
later worked for Roy Hammecker at the Falls Pharmacy until her retirement.
An active member
of Forest Presbyterian Church, Shela was among the first volunteers with
Forest Finds.
She is especially
well known for her baked beans, which she has donated to church bake sales,
community benefits, and nonprofit fundraisers throughout the area.
When Nelson
coached Little League, Shela became a second mother to the team, offering
the same warmth and encouragement she gave so freely to others.
For many years, and
still does, Shela also cared for elderly members of the community, sitting
with them and providing companionship and support. Her life has been
defined by the time, love, and kindness she has given to her family and
community.
Lyons Falls and
Lewis County are deeply grateful to celebrate Shela and the many lives she
has touched.
