Betty Jean Ellis
CROGHAN – Betty Jean
Ellis, age 80, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, August 20, 2026, at her
home in Croghan, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of
Lewis County Hospice.
Born on January 17, 1946, in
Lowville to the late Ira C. and Laura (Albertson)
Zehr, Betty graduated from Beaver
River Central School. She married Harry L. Ellis,
who passed away on February
7, 2021. Betty worked as a Nurse's Aide for New York State
and held various nursing positions throughout Lewis County.
She was also a member of the Croghan Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and
loved knitting special gifts for many.
She is survived
by her two children: a son, Darin (Leigh-Ann) Ellis of British Columbia,
and a daughter, Robin (Francis) Seelman of Indian River; her grandchildren,
Lauramae, Amanda, Anthony, Devin, Brett and Bayleigh, as well as her
great-grandchildren and her siblings, Ralph (Gloria) Zehr of Adams Center,
Bob Zehr of Croghan, Janet (Jeff) Peck of Castorland, Janis (Jerry)
Williams of Croghan, Jim Zehr of Croghan and Ellen Zehr of Florida, as well
as many nieces and nephews.
Betty was
predeceased by her parents, her husband, Harry, her son Jody, who passed
away on January 31, 2007 in a snowmobile accident, and her
brother, Richard Zehr of Watertown.
Services will be
held privately by the family. Arrangements are under the care of the
