Robert Paul Goss
It is with heavy hearts that we announce
the death of Robert Paul Goss, 62, of Lowville,
NY. He will be deeply missed
by all who have the privilege of knowing him.
Robert was born
the eighth of nine children to his beloved parents Robert and Helen Goss.
Robert attended Immaculate Heart Central from elementary school through his
graduation with the Class of 1981, excelling in football, basketball and
lacrosse. Robert earned a B.S. in
Business Education from Canisius
College where he
played Varsity Football, a M.S. in Education from SUNY Potsdam and a
Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration from SUNY
Oswego.
Robert married
Philomena Bronson on May 29, 2004, at St. Mary’s Church in Constableville, NY.
They loved walking through life together with their greatest
accomplishment, Rob’s pride and joy, their son, Henry Bronson Goss. As a family they enjoyed the simple
things in life along with long conversations and enjoying the beautiful
outdoors with their dog, Fern.
Family meant
everything to Rob. He loved attending family events celebrating birthdays,
holidays, baptisms, first communions, confirmations, weddings, ordinations,
or just a beautiful snowy or sunny afternoon. The family he celebrated with
include his siblings and their spouses Rosemarie and Jefferey St. Croix,
Stephen and Robin Goss, Lucy and Peter Deep, Joseph and Molly Goss, Loretta
and Bennett Bouchard, Elizabeth and Glenn LaFave, Thomas and Tracy Goss,
and Mary and Richard O’Connor, as well as his sisters and brothers in law,
Colleen Bronson, Bridget and Peter Sweredoski, Bernadette and Jeff
Desantis, Philip and Tonya Bronson, Yvonne Bronson and Robert Aliasso.
Along with his nieces, nephews and their spouses, Matt (Gina), Monica
(Christopher), Michael (Carrie), Mark, Kevin (Mai-Yin) Sarah (Joseph),
Jeremiah (Katherine), Rev. Cornelius, Megan (Sam), Christopher, Ryan,
Claire (Armando), Elise, Emily, Daniel (Shannon), Anne Marie (Sarah),
Isabella, Thomas, and Robert, Erin (Jack), Amber (Clif), Charley (Jessica),
Anthony (Melissa), Nathan, Graham (Haley) and Gaelyn and his 19
great-nieces and nephews.
Rob loved his
40-year career at Lowville Academy as a business teacher, coach and
Athletic Director. He coached athletes and scholars in football, basketball
and lacrosse, along with a few years of Odyssey of the Mind.
Know that if you
ever sat in Mr. Goss’ classroom or called him Coach, he respected you,
appreciated your efforts and stayed current with your life. He also
cherished all his colleagues and friends throughout his career.
Rob’s passion and
selflessness with his time, coupled with his love of interscholastic
athletics, earned him membership on many committees at the local, regional
and state levels. He enjoyed being the Assistant Director of the Frontier
League. He recently completed his term as President of Section III Athletics. Previously he served as the
chairman for Section III
Lacrosse serving on the New York State Lacrosse Committee. A noted
accomplishment was being named the Chapter 3 NYSAAA Athletic Administrator
of the year in 2023. His successes as an athlete and coach are many, but
some impressive achievements are being inducted into the IHC Hall of Fame,
running the Boilermaker several times, and completing the Philadelphia
Marathon.
Rob served his
community as a member of Lowville Elks Lodge #1605 and the Lowville Lion’s
Club. He was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lowville.
