LOWVILLE – Kenneth
Raymond “Kef” Keefer, 96, of Brookside Circle, Lowville, formerly of New
York State Route 410, Castorland, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June
28, 2026.
Kenneth is
survived by his children, Daniel L. Keefer of Lowville, Robert D. Keefer of
Watertown, Randy G. Keefer of Redwood, Penny S. and Matthew Cadwell of
Constantia, Kenneth M. and Susanna Keefer of Georgia, VT, and Lisa A. and Peter
Leubner of Dexter. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, eight
great-grandchildren, two sisters, Dorothy McIntyre of Carthage and
Elizabeth Card of Brewerton, and one brother, James Keefer of El Dorado,
AR.
He was
predeceased by his beloved wife, Elsie; his daughter and son-in-law, Diane
M. and Allan Toepfer of Pensacola, FL; his daughter-in-law, Mary Ann
Keefer; his parents, Roy T. and Stephanie Borowiec Keefe.
Kenneth was born
on December 30, 1929, in the Town of Harrisburg, New York, the son of the
late Roy T. and Stephanie Borowiec Keefer. He attended country schools
outside of Watertown and on West Street in Carthage before attending
Carthage High School.
As a young man,
Kenny worked on the family farm and several neighboring farms. He later
became a papermaker at Champion International before proudly serving his
country in the United States Army. From 1951 to 1953, he served in Korea
with the 453rd Combat Engineers. Following his honorable military service,
he returned to Champion International, where he remained until his
retirement in 1993.
His marriage to
V. Agnes Moroughan lasted from 1954 until 1979
and ended in divorce. He shared many years with Mary Kraegar. On February
14, 2011, Kenny married Elsie Kidder at Gales Ferry United Methodist Church
in Gales Ferry, Connecticut.
Kenny was a Life
Member of Lewis County Memorial Post #6912. He enjoyed listening to local
country and western bands and especially loved dancing. He spent many happy
years RV camping at Lake Bonaparte, was an avid walker, and had a lifelong
appreciation for automobiles. He was also a dedicated volunteer, giving his
time to both his church and the Lowville VFW, where he enjoyed serving his
community and spending time with friends.
A graveside
service with Military Honors will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, July 7,
2026, at Castorland Union Cemetery. There will be no calling hours or
funeral service.
A luncheon will
immediately follow at the Lowville VFW, and all
are welcome to attend. Those wishing to contribute food for the luncheon
may deliver donations directly to the VFW on Tuesday morning.
In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Beaver Falls United
Methodist Church, 6508 LeFevre Street, P.O. Box 66, Beaver Falls, NY 13305.
