Frederick C.
Tabolt
 Frederick C. Tabolt, of Lowville, passed
away peacefully early Sunday evening, July 26, 2026, at the Lewis County
Residential Health Care Facility with his family by his side. Fred had been
a resident there since 2024.
Fred was born on May 10, 1932, in
Croghan, the son of the late Frederick G. and Amy L. (Meister) Tabolt. He
graduated from Lowville
Academy and Central School as a member of the Class of
1951.
He proudly served
his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the
Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged in
October 1954.
On November 6,
1954, Fred married Margaret E. Biche at St.
Peter's Catholic Church in New Bremen, with the Rev. Alphonsus Trabold,
OFM, officiating. The couple made their home in Lowville. Fred retired in
1990 after 33 years of dedicated service with the Lewis County Highway
Department, where he served as Deputy Highway Superintendent. Margaret
passed away on January
28, 2015.
Fred is survived
by his four children and their spouses: John F. (Cathy) Tabolt, Thomas P.
(Renee) Tabolt, Kelly E. Balash (widow of the late Wallace D. Balash), and
Jerry M. (Sue) Tabolt; six grandchildren: Jacob Tabolt, Ryan T. Tabolt,
Cory F. (Caitlin) Tabolt, Miranda L. Tabolt, Jordan M. (Corrinne) Tabolt,
and Jeffrey G. (Julie) Tabolt; three great-grandchildren: Wyatt Donnaly,
Crystle Tabolt, and Caisie Tabolt; and his siblings, Marcia Jewett (widow
of the late Donald), Carol J. Hulbert (widow of the late Thomas), L.
Michael (Sharon) Tabolt, and Mark D. (Cathy) Tabolt. He is also survived by
several nieces and nephews.
In addition to
his parents and wife, Fred was predeceased by his brothers, Donald J.
Tabolt and Larry J. Tabolt (Patricia); his sisters, Eleanor Curtis (Bobby)
and Marie Tabolt; and his brother-in-law, Jack Virkler.
Fred was a
devoted communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church. He served as former
president of the Lewis County Softball League, the Lewis County Chapter of
CSEA, and the Valley Snow Travelers. He was also a member of Petrie Pond
Camp, where he enjoyed hunting. In his spare time, Fred loved camping,
snowmobiling, woodworking, and sharpening lawn mower blades for many
friends.
Family and
friends are invited to call on Thursday, July 30, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sundquist Funeral Home. A Mass of
Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 31, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter's
Catholic Church, with the Rev. Sony J. Pulickal,
Pastor, officiating.
A committal
service with military honors will follow at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery
in New Bremen. Following services family and friends are invited to the
Marine Corps League. Food donations can be dropped off after 11:30 am on Friday.
The family
extends its gratitude to the third-floor staff of the Lewis County
Residential Health Care Facility for the compassionate care Fred received
during his residency.
