Fifth Judicial District Celebrates America 250,
Joining New York
State Court System’s Public Readings of the
Declaration of Independence
CENTRAL NEW YORK– As part of the
New York State Court System’s America 250 celebrations, there will be
simultaneous readings of the Declaration of Independence at court
facilities across New York on Thursday, July 9, coinciding with the 250th
anniversary of signing of the Declaration by the New York delegation in
White Plains. All six counties within Central New York’s Fifth Judicial
District will participate in the public readings.
Readers will include judges, court officers, and court clerks, among other
court employees.
By bringing
together diverse voices, these readings pay tribute to America’s birth as
an independent nation, also inspiring future generations to uphold the
principles of freedom and equality. As the words of the Declaration are
spoken on the stairs of the halls of justice, they serve as a poignant
reminder of the enduring quest for a more perfect union.
