AI-generated content may be incorrect.WATERTOWN – Hugh Thomas Keaveney, 77, of Campus Drive, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at Samaritan Summit Village, where he had been a resident for three years.

 

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no funeral services.  His family will be gathering privately to honor his life.

 

Hugh was born on February 8, 1949 in Jamaica, NY, a son of the late John and Helen Schultz Keaveney.  After his schooling, he served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Intrepid from 1969 until 1972 during the Vietnam War.  On December 2, 1972 he married the former Susan Mashefsky at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in College Point, NY.  The marriage later ended amicably.  Hugh worked for Delta Airlines in Baggage Handling at LaGuardia Airport and Greater Cincinnati International Airport, retiring after 30 years of service.  He continued to work various jobs in retirement.

 

He is survived by three daughters, Jennifer (Christopher) Kain of Lowville; Kelly Painter of Lee Center; and Shannon Reuter of Lowville; his grandchildren, Jacob (Brandy) Gearhart of Lowville; Joshua Roberts of Lakeland, FL; Chelsea Kain of Lowville; Caila Kain of Lowville; Cody Kain of Lowville; Aspen Reuter of Lowville; his great-grandchildren, Story Carraway, Araiyah Noftsier, Vaelyn Gearhart, Jaeson Gearhart, and Maeson Gearhart, all of Lowville; and a brother, John (Jean) Keaveney.  He is predeceased by his parents; twin granddaughters, Scarlet and Magnolia Reuter; his ex-wife, Susan; a sister, Monica Keaveney; and a niece, Leila Schmidt.
