BOCES Forestry Students Successful at 2026 NYS
Conservation Contest
The talented
students of the Environmental Conservation & Forestry program at
the Howard G. Sackett Technical Center had another strong showing at the
New York State Conservation Contest in May.
The 2026 edition
of the event was held on May 21 at SUNY Morrisville. It included over 200
students competing from 13 different conservation and forestry programs
located across New York State. A variety of forestry, heavy equipment and
woodsman skill competitions took place.
The New York
State Conservation Contest has been in operation since the 1980’s and is
organized by conservation instructors across New York.
BOCES students
from the Sackett Center won six 1st place trophies, three 2nd place
trophies, and two 3rd place trophies. Two students also placed fourth in
respective competitions.
First place
winners received a $1,000 annual scholarship, second place winners received
a $750 annual scholarship and third place winners
received a $500 annual scholarship.
