HISTORIC VILLAGE BAND CELEBRATES ITS 200th YEAR

Lowville, NY- The Lowville Village Band has a long and rich history dating back to 1826.  For generations, talented community members from Lowville and the surrounding areas have contributed their time and talent to provide live entertainment for 200 years.  The village band often says of their traditional summer concert series in beautiful Lowville Veterans Memorial Park, “come enjoy an old-fashioned outdoor band concert on the lawn”. In the 1800’s, live band concerts were not old-fashioned, but a staple of the communities entertainment as electricity, television, and radio were not part of the everyday life of Lewis Countians.

On July 1, 2026 the Historic Lowville Village Band will begin their 200th year as one of the oldest community bands recorded in the United States of America.  The July 1st concert will be held at 7:00 PM on the band stand with patriotic songs and marches being a focal point of the concert.  “American’s We” by Fillmore,  Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever”, Berlin’s “God Bless America”, and a tribute to the armed forces with the powerful “Armed Forces Salute” arr. by Lowden.  The band is bringing back two songs not heard in many years; “Civil War Suite” by Harold Walters will feature “The Gathering Clouds” and “When Johnny Comes Marching Home”. George M. Cohan’s Star Spangled Spectacular will feature Mary’s A Grand Old Name, Give My Regards to Broadway, Yankee Doodle Dandy, and You’re a Grand Old Flag.

In celebration of the band’s 200th year, there will be special events at each Wednesday night concert in the park.  The first concert on July 1 will feature food trucks with dinners and desserts.  For the kids we will have face painting, balloon animals, and outdoor games and the playground will be open.  In celebration of the 200th anniversary, Kraft and the fire department will have 200 hotdogs free to the first 200 guests.  Activities begin at 5:30 PM and the Patriotic Concert begins at 7:00 PM. In case of rain, the concert will be held at the Fair Grounds Pavilion. Be sure to check out the Lowville Village Bands Facebook Page for more information on the history and upcoming concerts.
