Surviving are four children, Herbert Yancey Jr. (Katie) of Asheville, NC, Christina Yancey (Jay Corieri) of Buffalo, Suzanne Yancey of Corinth, NY, Marc Yancey of Utica, two granddaughters, Lucca and Anna; his siblings, Virginia Lyndaker of Lowville; Theodore (Mary) Yancey of Lowville; Timothy Yancey of Lowville, Gordon Yancey of Lowville, John (Amber) Yancey of Lowville; a sister-in-law, Arlene Yancey of Lowville; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He is predeceased by a brother, Edward Yancey, and a sister, Carolyn Malone.

 

Herb was born on October 30, 1947 in Lowville, NY, a son of the late Edward C. and Bertha E. Beyer Yancey.  He graduated from Lowville Academy in the class of 1965, where he was State Officer in NYS FFA, serving as Treasurer.  Herb took over the family farm and operated it for two years before moving to New Jersey and Alaska before returning to Lewis County to start a custom farming business.

 

Herb owned and operated Yancey Combining with his partner/cousin, Merle G. Yancey, Lowville, NY from 1981-2019.

 

Herb was active in the snowmobiling community for many years, winning numerous races as a famed independent racer across the US, being inducted in the National Snowmobile Hall of Fame in 2002 and the Eastern Snowmobile Hall of Fame in 2018 for his racing prowess. 

 

In keeping with Herb’s wishes, a graveside service at Croghan Mennonite Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family.  A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at Flat Rock Inn, 4100 Flat Rock Road, Lowville, NY 13367 starting at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday May 30, 2026, all are welcome.
