CARTHAGE — Carol E.
Hotchkiss, 71, of the town of Champion, passed away at her home early
Wednesday morning, May 27, 2026.
Born on April 30, 1955, in
Lowville, Carol was the daughter of the late Theodore Rutson and Mildred
May (Gilbert) Millard. She graduated from South Lewis
High School with the
Class of 1973 and continued her education at Utica School of Commerce.
Carol began her career at Lewis
County General
Hospital before
transferring to the Residential Health Care Facility, where she served for
many years and retired as a Ward Clerk.
On September 15, 1984,
Carol married the love of her life, David L. Hotchkiss, at Lowville United Methodist
Church. The ceremony
was officiated by Pastor Joe Chamberlain of Community Assembly of God.
Together, Carol and David made their home in Lowville most recently Carthage.
Carol is survived
by her devoted husband, David; their three children, Amanda S. Hotchkiss,
Andrew L. Hotchkiss, and Nathan D. Hotchkiss; and her beloved
grandchildren, Brent and Ryleigh; her sisters, Linda Millard, Elizabeth
“Betty” (Bohdan "Bo" ) Krop; Gail (Thomas) Gordon, her brother,
David L. (Sue) Millard; her sisters-in-law, Debbie Millard (late Robert
J.); Rebecca Millard (late Gerald F.); and her brother-in-law, Douglas
Aubel (late Katherine L. Millard); several nieces and nephews. She is also
predeceased by her younger sister, Shirley Jane in 1955.
A calling hour
for family and friends will be held on Friday, June 5th from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Calvary Assembly of God in Carthage, followed by
a memorial service at 3:00 p.m.,
officiated by Pastor Dan Williamson. All are invited to remain following

Carol was a
member of Calvary Assembly of God, where she served as director of prison
ministry. She deeply loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and
found joy in scrapbooking.
Carol will be
remembered for her unwavering faith, caring heart, and the guiding words
she often shared; “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do”
