Mary Ellen (Gingerich) Roggie
CARTHAGE- Mary Ellen (Gingerich) Roggie, 89, of Sayre Road,
Carthage passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026 at
her home surrounded by her loving family.
Mary Ellen is survived by four children, Loren
(Sharon) Roggie of Carthage; Bruce Roggie of Croghan, Karen (Darwin) Moser
of Castorland, Leonard (Leah) Roggie of Lowville; 12 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren;
a brother, Simon Gingerich of Lowville; a sister-in-law, Arlene Widrick; a
brother-in-law, Thomas Beller; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is
predeceased by her beloved husband, Wilbur N. Roggie;
a daughter-in-law, Wanda D. Roggie. two sisters, Geraldine (Clifford) Zehr
and Kathleen Gingerich; three brothers-in-law, Royal Widrick, Niles Roggie,
Elton Roggie; and two sisters-in-law, Diane Gingerich, and Beulah Beller.
Mary Ellen was born on February 19,1937 in
Harrisburg, N.Y., a daughter of the late Simon Sr. and Adaline (Mayer)
Gingerich. She was educated in rural
school and graduated from Lowville Central School in 1953. Mary Ellen worked as secretary for
Attorney Dwight N. Dudo & Community Purchasing Corporation in Lowville
until her marriage. On June 7, 1956 she married Wilbur N. Roggie at Lowville Mennonite
church with Rev. Lloyd Boshart and Rev. Andrew Gingerich, her uncle,
officiating. Wilbur passed away on June 5, 2000 at
the age of 67 years after 45 years of marriage. She and her husband owned and operated
the family farm with his brother, Elton known as
Roggie Dairy. After several years they started Roggie Egg Factory with
their son’s now known as Black River Valley Farms. In 1985 the couple moved off the farm and
retired on the Sayre Road, Carthage when their two
sons, Loren and Leonard assumed the business later adding Loren's son-in-law, Mike Lyndaker, to the
business.
Mary Ellen is an active Charter member of Naumburg
Mennonite Church. She and her husband served on the Sonlight
Missions of Haiti board. Mary Ellen
was also a faithful member of the Riverview Ladies Aid Sewing Circle. She enjoyed traveling, going with her
husband many years to the Sonlight Mission in
Haiti, to Europe twice, volunteered a week with MCC SOAP program in
Brownsville, Texas and toured many U.S. states. Mary also enjoyed scrapbooking, making
quilts, singing, especially with children, and doing office work for her
son's business. Most of all Mary Ellen enjoyed spending time with her
family.
Calling hours are from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. on
Sunday March 29, 2026 at Naumburg Mennonite
Church. A graveside service is at
10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 30, 2026 at Naumburg
Mennonite Cemetery with a memorial service following at 10:30 a.m. at
Naumburg Mennonite Church. In lieu
of flowers, contributions may be made to Sonlight
Missions C/O Delvin and Sharon Lehman, 9604 State Route 126, Castorland, NY
13620 or Naumburg Mennonite Church, Attn. Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 124,
Castorland, NY 13620. Arrangements
