LOWVILLE – Berneda Mary
Hirschy Farney, 96, of Bardo Road, passed away at Lewis County General
Hospital on February 28th, 2026, with her family by her side.
Berneda was born
on March 13, 1929 in Croghan, NY, a daughter of
the late Louis C. and Vera Jackson Hirschy and grew up on the family farm
in the town of Martinsburg. Berneda attended Lowville Free Academy and
graduated in 1947. After graduation, she became employed as a secretary and
teller at Lewis County Trust Co., now Community Bank. On October 30, 1951,
she married Herbert H. Farney at her parents’ home with Rev. William W.
Sawin, Pastor of Lowville Baptist Church officiating. Together with her
husband, the couple ran the Farney family dairy farm, operating the farm in
a partnership with Herbert’s brother, Wilbur,
until 1976, and later with their sons, Gary and Stephen, and later sold the
farm to their sons Stephen and Dale. She spent many years as the farms book keeper and took great pride that grandsons Dallen
and Cody chose to come back home to continue operating the family farm.
Berneda was a
member of Lowville Baptist Church.
She was a former member the Lewis County
Cooperative Extension Home Economics Division, and
served on the 4-H Program Committee.

reading and crossword puzzles. Most
of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great
grandchildren.

sons, Stephen Farney of Lowville and Dale (Shannon) Farney of Lowville; one
daughter-in-law, Karen Farney of Morrisville; three grandchildren, Dallen
(Madalynn) Farney of Lowville, Cody (Rachael) Farney of Lowville, and
