Wheelchairs, walkers, hospital beds and other essential items can be expensive and difficult to access quickly.

That’s why the Lowville Lions club, with the initial help of the Morrisville Lions Club, launched our Medical Loan Equipment Program—to ensure that no one in our community has to go without the equipment they need to heal, recover and live with dignity.

This year, the club reached an important milestone- 200 families in the community have received support through the medical loan equipment program.

These families have borrowed items such as: Wheelchairs, transport chairs, walkers, canes, hospital beds, commodes and shower chairs, other mobility and safety aids.  For many, this support has meant the difference between struggling at home and being able to move safely, rest comfortably and focus on recovery.

"The Lowville Lions Club has been a key partner in delivering effective and safe services to patients confined to their homes in Lewis County" shared Randy Lehman, Physical Therapist.  "Their team is always quick and happy to help in any way they can.  I have had many experiences where patients did not have the means to procure the equipment that they needed.  Without the Lions Club, these patients may not have gotten what they needed or would've been delayed in obtaining it"

The club receives gently used equipment from community members and, when needed, purchase additional items using funds raised through club projects and donations. All the equipment is cleaned and inspected prior to use. Families can borrow equipment for short- or longer-term use, depending on their needs. There is no rental fee; the only ask is that items be returned when they are no longer needed so the next family can be helped. Once equipment is returned, it is inspected again and prepared for the next person in need. This cycle of giving allows one wheelchair, one walker or one hospital bed to serve many people over time—multiplying the impact of every donation.

This program is about more than just equipment it is about restoring independence and hope.  We are providing an opportunity to help people move safely around their homes and communities while easing the physical and financial burden on families.

While this program is not unique to the Lowville Lions Club, it has quickly become a staple service project.  "This program allows us to see instant results.  A family member or service provider can call us and within hours we can fill a need." says, Elizabeth Spaulding, Club President.  "We have a motto of 'We Serve' as Lions, and this program fullfills that focus everytime we are able to answer the call."

If you want to help this program or learn more here are some ways you can get involved:

Donate equipment – If you have gently used medical equipment you no longer need, consider donating it to our program.

Spread the word – Share information about the program with friends, neighbors, healthcare providers and caregivers.

Make a Donation- While there is no cost to families, there are expenses to running this program.  If you would like to make a monetary donation they can be sent to: Lowville Lions Club  7518 S. State Street Suite 4 Lowville, NY 13367
