The event gives prospective students the chance to experience Jefferson firsthand, get a sense of campus life, meet faculty, and learn about academic programs that lead to high-demand careers. During check-in, a service fair will be held where students can explore the services and programs Jefferson offers to help them succeed.

A highlight of the morning will be a keynote presentation by motivational speaker and speed painter Tom Varano. Using his fingertips, palms, and multiple brushes, he creates striking portraits of well-known figures on a four-by-five-foot canvas in just minutes. His live art demonstrations blend storytelling with high-energy performance. Varano has dedicated his life to inspiring students through creativity, resilience, and hope, helping them see what’s possible beyond their circumstances.

Following the keynote are breakout sessions focused on career fields, college support programs, life skills, student experiences, financial aid and paying for college, and more. Faculty and industry professionals will discuss career paths, the skills employers seek, and how Jefferson’s academic programs prepare students for those opportunities.

Connecting students with the local workforce is what makes Jefferson’s Open House & Career Expo distinctive. The event brings together more than 55 businesses and organizations from across the region to share insights on in-demand jobs and workforce needs. Students can learn how education at Jefferson can lead to careers close to home while gaining an understanding of the skills needed to succeed in today’s workforce.

Throughout the day, attendees will also have opportunities to learn about admissions and financial aid, explore student life and athletics, and tour campus facilities, including the residence hall.

The Open House & Career Expo is open to prospective students and families, as well as current Jefferson students exploring career options.
