from Railway Historical Society of Northern New York
Croghan, NY- There has been
some more exciting news for the Railway Historical Society of Northern New
York. What,
you might ask? Our Railroad Museum library has had a makeover, thanks to a
grant of $10,000.00 from the Northern New York Community Foundation- our
partners in this endeavor.
Our ledgers are
quite rare and one of a kind, some dating back to 1893. The ledgers were
used in the everyday workings at the rail depots. From freight, times,
amounts, schedules, etc., were all written down in the ledgers daily. These
one-of-a-kind handwritten ledgers give a glimpse into the life of the
railroad itself and the railroad workers.
The makeover of
our library has helped to showcase our collection, while protecting this
collection at the same time. Through this collection, a rich heritage for
future generations has been preserved.
There will be an
open house in the spring of this year at the Croghan Depot. Watch for
details in the near future. Hope to see you all
there and ride the rails with us. Take a trip back in time and visit us at
the Railway Historical Society of Northern New York’s Croghan, NY depot
museum! We are located at 9781 Main Street in Croghan, NY. Hope to see you all there.

The Railway
Historical Society of Northern New York has been
listed on the
National and NYS Register of Historic Places listing 2024.
