Lowville, NY- The New York
State Police have charged Village of Lowville Department of Public Works
Superintendent Paul A. Denise with one misdemeanor count of fourth-degree
Criminal Possession of a Weapon.
Statement from
New York State Police:
On January 22, 2026, New York State
Police arrested Paul A. Denise, age 56, of Lowville, NY, for
Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree (class A
misdemeanor).
On January 2, 2026, New York State Police
were contacted by the Lowville Village Police Department requesting
assistance with a complaint involving a Village of Lowville official.
A preliminary investigation determined
that Denise brought a Heckler & Koch P2000SK handgun
into the village offices on January 2, 2026. Further investigation revealed
that Denise did not possess a valid New York State pistol
permit to carry. The handgun was allegedly obtained by a family member for

coworkers, Denise allegedly displayed the aforementioned handgun.
The handgun was voluntarily surrendered
to New York State Police in Lowville. Denise was processed
and issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Lowville Court on
March 5, 2026, at 4:00 p.m.
Statement from
Village of Lowville Mayor Dan Salmon:
The Village of Lowville Board is aware of
the pending charge against a person employed by the Village and takes these
allegations very seriously. The Village Board recognizes that every citizen
is presumed innocent unless, and until, proven otherwise. The Village Board
intends to allow the criminal justice system to proceed without
interference from the Village. Village Officials will, of course, fully
cooperate with any investigative agencies. The scenario also implicates a personnel matter. The parties are actively
addressing personnel issues and the Board cannot
comment upon personnel matters upon advice from the Village attorney.
