AI-generated content may be incorrect.Mrs. Loretta D. (Robertson) Spano passed away peacefully on the morning of December 8th, 2025 with family at her bedside.  Loretta had been living with the debilitating effects of Parkinson’s Disease for several years.

Loretta was a graduate of Lowville high in the class 1955.  This is also where she met, her soon to be husband, Joseph Spano of Watertown, and were married at St. Peters Church on August 16th, 1958.

Loretta and her husband were both teachers by profession with her teaching 5th & 6th grade and he teaching instrumental music.   Loretta worked on numerous committees to standardize Math and Science throughout NY and she spent summers teaching teachers from around the country better methods of teaching.  Following retirement, they enjoyed extensive travel throughout the US with family and friends.  They eventually settled in San Diego where she cared for her husband.

After Joseph’s passing, Loretta enjoyed years of volunteering and political activism which she received numerous letters of gratitude and awards.  She also used her love of knitting and her natural talent as a teacher teaching people throughout San Diego the art of knitting.

Loretta’s husband Joseph had preceded her by 20 years.  She is survived by her sons Phillip in Austin, TX and Thomas in San Diego, CA as well as her only grandson Hunter, of El Paso, TX.

A funeral Mass will be held on Monday July 6, 2026 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville, NY with burial in Lowville Rural Cemetery.  Local arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc.  Condolences may be made online at www.isenekerfuneralhome.com.
