Born with a curious and independent heart on May 21, 1981 in Watertown, NY, the daughter of Charles L. and Loretta Anderson Grunert, she attended local schools in Sackets Harbor and Watertown and later attended Bryant & Stratton College.

Prior to becoming disabled, she worked at Allstate, and later became a self-employed entrepreneur, selling handmade and crafted items online, sharing her creativity with a wide circle of friends and admirers.

Charlene was known for her warmth, creativity, deep love for nature and her home, and had many joys in life. She loved tending to her garden, exploring nature, and crafting beautiful crochet hats, which she wore proudly. She was an avid reader and writer, and in her later years, she devoted herself to writing a novel, leaving behind a collection of thoughts and stories that reflected her thoughtful spirit. Her home was a sanctuary for her and her beloved pets, especially her loyal dog Roxie, who survives her.

Those who knew Charlene remember her sweetness and kindness from early on; many fondly recall her sitting with children on the school bus, always ready with a smile or a kind word. She cherished her friendships, her family, and the simple joys of life, from a blooming garden to a hand-stitched creation.

Charlene’s creativity, entrepreneurial spirit, and love for life left an indelible mark on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for her generosity, her gentle heart, and her unique, spirited presence.

Surviving is her sister and brother-in-law, Julia M. and Randall Killian, of Mexico, NY; nephews Lucas and Logan Killian, both of Mexico, NY, and Liam Killian, of Baldwinsville, and several cousins. She was predeceased by her parents.

Family and friends of Charlene’s are invited to attend a graveside committal service in the spring on a date and time to be later announced in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Croghan. There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Scanlon Funeral Home, Croghan.
