LCHS Welcomes the First Baby of the New Year

Director JoAnne Rhubart. The Foundation showered the Wheatley family with
gifts for baby Santiago, along with a special dinner for mom and dad from
Jeb’s Restaurant. The Bloom Bar in Lowville also helped mark this joyful
occasion by congratulating the family with a beautiful floral arrangement.
LOWVILLE,
NY─ Lewis County Health System (LCHS) is pleased to announce the
arrival of the first baby born in Lewis County in 2026.
Rosa and Anthony
Wheatley, Fort Drum, welcomed a son, Santiago Maurice Wheatley, born on
January 8, 2026. Santiago weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces, and measured 20.5
inches long. Dr. Adewale Adegbenro and the
nursing team delivered Santiago at 8:07 am. Santiago joins his brother,
Antonio Elias Wheatley.
"We had a
beautiful experience, and the staff went above and beyond," stated
Mrs. Rosa Wheatley. "Dr. Adegbenro was
amazing, along with the OR team and maternity nurses who provided great
care and were so comforting during my delivery."
Brittany Salmon,
LCHS Maternity Nurse Manager, said, "Our team was honored to celebrate
and share this special moment with the Wheatley family.”
The Maternity
unit includes private rooms, labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum suites
(LDRPs), a nursery, and a labor lounge. It connects directly to the new
state-of-the-art Surgical Pavilion, which provides easy access and privacy
if a C-section is needed.
The obstetricians
and nursing team delivered 156 babies last year, 77 boys and 79 girls, and
are proud to provide local access to women's health and maternity services.
