LOWVILLE, NY─ Lewis County Health System (LCHS) is pleased to announce the arrival of the first baby born in Lewis County in 2026.

Rosa and Anthony Wheatley, Fort Drum, welcomed a son, Santiago Maurice Wheatley, born on January 8, 2026. Santiago weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces, and measured 20.5 inches long. Dr. Adewale Adegbenro and the nursing team delivered Santiago at 8:07 am. Santiago joins his brother, Antonio Elias Wheatley.

"We had a beautiful experience, and the staff went above and beyond," stated Mrs. Rosa Wheatley. "Dr. Adegbenro was amazing, along with the OR team and maternity nurses who provided great care and were so comforting during my delivery."

Brittany Salmon, LCHS Maternity Nurse Manager, said, "Our team was honored to celebrate and share this special moment with the Wheatley family.”

The Maternity unit includes private rooms, labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum suites (LDRPs), a nursery, and a labor lounge. It connects directly to the new state-of-the-art Surgical Pavilion, which provides easy access and privacy if a C-section is needed.

The obstetricians and nursing team delivered 156 babies last year, 77 boys and 79 girls, and are proud to provide local access to women's health and maternity services.
