AI-generated content may be incorrect.LOWVILLE- Wallace D. “Wally” Balash, 70, died early Sunday morning at Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility where he had resided since 2023.

 

Wally was born in Lowville the son of the late Francis A. and Patricia Jane (McVoy) Balash. He graduated from Lowville Academy and Central School, the Class of 1973. He owned and operated a couple of bars in the area, Indian River Hotel and the Windsor Bar, Wally also bartended at Stumps in Croghan. He retired from FiberMark the former Payne Jones where he started as a machinist and retired from the maintenance department.

 

Wally married Kelly E. Tabolt on August 22, 1992 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Rev. Ted Monica, officiating.

 

Surviving is his wife, Kelly, his brother, Kirk S. and Karen Balash; his sister, Christina and Noel Schneider; several nieces and nephews; and his Tabolt family. He is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Wayne F. Balash.

 

Wally was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and the former St. Ann’s in Castorland. He was a life member of Lowville B.P.O.E. #1605, a former member of the Lowville Fire Department, he enjoyed playing Euchre. Wally loved his dogs over the years, especially Yukon Jack.

 

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 from 10:30 until 11:30 at the Sundquist Funeral Home followed by a funeral Mass at St. Peter’s Catholic Church at 12 Noon with Rev. Sony G. Pulickal, Pastor officiating. Spring burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, New Bremen.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held directly following services at Lowville Elks. You may leave a dish to pass starting at 9:00am on Wednesday.
