AI-generated content may be incorrect.CROGHAN - Kathleen A. “Sue” Shambo, 78, died Saturday evening, December 20, 2025 at Lewis County General Hospital.

 

Sue was born on August 3, 1947 in Lowville the daughter of the late Harold J. and Edna (Martin) Zehr. She graduated from Beaver River High School and Jefferson Community College with associates in accounting. She married William C. Shambo on December 11, 1965 in Copenhagen. Sue and Bill made their home in Croghan where they shared 55 years of marriage until Bill’s passing on August 13, 2021.

 

She worked various jobs throughout her career, retiring from the accounting department at the Lewis County General Hospital.

 

She is survived by her two sons, Earl T. "Tom" Shambo and Joseph H. Shambo; her grandchildren and great grandchildren; her brother, Bruce (Karen) Zehr; several nieces and nephews.

 

Sue is predeceased by her daughter, Linda June Welsh, her sisters, DeEtta M. (Lyle) Moser and Kay M. (David) Smithling.

 

She was a member of the Croghan Mennonite Church. Susie will be remembered for enjoying

her morning coffee club family as well as her knitting talents. She could often be found knitting, countless number of mittens and socks, which she donated to benefit the community. Sue was a past member of the Croghan Fire Department Auxiliary.

 

She was a family oriented wife, mom, grandmother and great grandmother who loved her family.

 

Calling hours will be Friday, December 26, 2025 from 12:00 Noon to 1:45pm at Croghan Mennonite Church. The funeral will follow at 2:00pm on Friday, with Rev. Paul Mast, Bruce Roggie and Joseph Virkler officiating. 

 

Burial will be in Croghan Mennonite Cemetery.
