Lewis County Community Services Awards $54,636 in
Opioid Settlement Funds to Local Organizations
LOWVILLE, NY– The Lewis County
Community Services Board is excited to announce that a total of $54,636 in
opioid settlement funds have been awarded to local organizations and
projects, through the Future Stories Fund.
The Future
Stories Fund was designed to support organizations/entities of all sizes
and origins in combating the effects of the opioid overdose epidemic. The
following organizations were awarded Future Stories Funds to support
upstream strategies that strengthen community institutions and discourage
or prevent opioid use initiation and the misuse of opioids:
• The Alcohol and Substance Abuse Council
of Jefferson County, Inc. dba Pivot has been awarded $13,500 to host a
community substance use and emerging trends summit, featuring the renowned
speaker Jermain Galloway, also known as “Tall Cop”.
• The Village of Constableville has been
awarded $7,600 to host 10-12 monthly prevention-focused activities for the
adults and children in the Town of West Turin or Village of Constableville.
• The Lewis County Youth Bureau has been
awarded $8,000 to continue to implement and promote the Screenagers Project
through its second year. This includes assisting Lewis County Schools with
utilization of their memberships, hosting a summit with a youth panel and
the development of a campaign ad.
• The Lewis County Suicide Prevention
Coalition has been awarded $8,536 to provide Gizmo’s Pawesome Guide to
Mental Health to every third-grade student enrolled in a Lewis County
school. The program offers education on feelings and emotions, trusted adults,
healthy activities and coping tools.
• No Wrong Roads,
LLC has been awarded $17,000 to create a documentary style video designed
to spark meaningful conversations, first in classrooms between students and
teachers, and then at home with their families, about the choices that
shape their future and how to avoid the detours that opioids can create.
