Planned Parenthood of the North Country NY Responds
to Federal Medicaid Defunding
North Country, NY— On July 4,
2025, a federal law known as H.R. 1 went into effect, prohibiting
federal Medicaid funds from going to New York’s Planned Parenthood
affiliates for one year.
Planned
Parenthood of the North Country NY (PPNCNY) continues to provide care to all
patients, regardless of coverage. More than 50% of our patients rely
on Medicaid, and these patients can still access care at no cost- the
federal defunding provision does not affect their Medicaid status.
While we cannot
receive federal Medicaid reimbursement, New York State is stepping in.
Thanks to Governor Kathy Hochul, the state Medicaid program will reimburse
our health centers using 100% state funds, ensuring continuity of
care for Medicaid patients.
“In the face of
relentless federal attacks on reproductive freedom, New York is standing
strong,” said Crystal Collette, President and CEO of PPNCNY. “We are
grateful for Governor Hochul’s leadership, which ensures our health centers
can continue providing essential care to the community. We look forward to
working with Governor Hochul and the Legislature to build a future where
reproductive health care is treated as essential, funding is fair and
stable, and care is accessible to all.”
The threats to
reproductive health care are ongoing. Federal leaders continue to try to
disrupt access, while health centers navigate a system already strained by
chronic underfunding. This is a moment to reimagine a system that centers
sexual and reproductive health care, advances health equity, and
ensures everyone has access to care.
