She was born on February 15, 1924 in Norwalk, Connecticut, a daughter of John and Hazel McIntyre Shippers. At a young age her family moved to Kosterville and her father operated the papermill.  She could often be found running on the logs as they floated down river and ice skating anywhere she could find open ice in the winter. Helen grew up in Kosterville and attended Lyons Falls High School. In 1941 she was united in marriage to Joseph White Sr. at the Congregational Church in Port Leyden, a blessed union spanning 70 years until his passing in 2011. Together the couple moved to Lyons Falls and then Gouldtown before building a house in Port Leyden where they lived for several years. Later, they moved to Charles Street in Boonville and lastly to Buck Corners Road where she resided for 37 years.  Helen was an excellent homemaker all through the years.

She loved African violets, the Hallmark Channel, and canning.  Helen was also an avid baker and cook.

She was a dedicated parishioner at the Hawkinsville Methodist Church and greatly enjoyed visiting any church that she could.

She is survived by two children, William White of Rome and Joanne Fahey (Thomas Prior) of Port Leyden; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph White Sr.; two sons, Joseph White Jr. in 2025 and Jeffrey White in 2003; one daughter, Sonja Skidmore in 2025; one grandson, Shane in 2004; one granddaughter, Heidi in 2025; one great-grandson, David in 2025; one brother, William Shippers in 2012 and her beloved dog Peanut in 2023.
