Helen White
BOONVILLE- Helen White,
101, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter on Wednesday,
October 29, 2025 under the care of Lewis County
Hospice.
She was born on
February 15, 1924 in Norwalk, Connecticut, a daughter of John and Hazel McIntyre Shippers. At a
young age her family moved to Kosterville
and her father operated the papermill. She could often be found
running on the logs as they floated down river and ice skating anywhere she could find open ice in the winter. Helen
grew up in Kosterville and attended Lyons Falls
High School. In 1941 she was united in marriage to Joseph White Sr. at the
Congregational Church in Port Leyden, a blessed union spanning 70 years
until his passing in 2011. Together the couple moved to Lyons Falls and
then Gouldtown before building a house in Port
Leyden where they lived for several years. Later, they moved to Charles
Street in Boonville and lastly to Buck Corners Road where she resided for
37 years. Helen was an excellent homemaker all through the years.
She loved African
violets, the Hallmark Channel, and canning. Helen was also an avid
baker and cook.
She was a
dedicated parishioner at the Hawkinsville Methodist Church and greatly
enjoyed visiting any church that she could.
She is survived
by two children, William White of Rome and Joanne Fahey (Thomas Prior) of
Port Leyden; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 5
great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph
White Sr.; two sons, Joseph White Jr. in 2025 and Jeffrey White in 2003;
one daughter, Sonja Skidmore in 2025; one grandson, Shane in 2004; one
granddaughter, Heidi in 2025; one great-grandson, David in 2025; one
brother, William Shippers in 2012 and her beloved dog Peanut in 2023.
Per Helen’s
wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
