AI-generated content may be incorrect.LOWVILLE – Helen C. Zehr, 89, formerly of East State St., Lowville, passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility.

 

She is survived by her siblings, Michael M. and Lois Shenk Zehr of Goshen, Indiana; Joseph A. and Genny Zehr of St. Cloud, FL; a sister-in-law, Joanne Zehr (Ron) Frey; 16 nieces and nephews; and cousins.  She is predeceased by two brothers and two sisters-in-law, John W. Zehr; Llewellyn P. and Clara Moser Zehr; and Dolores Lehman Zehr.

 

Helen was born on February 16, 1936, in Lowville, NY, the only daughter of the late Abner and Mary N. Widrick Zehr.  Helen graduated from Lancaster (PA) Mennonite High School in 1954. Helen received her A.A.S from Eastern Mennonite College and later attended Jefferson Community College.  Helen worked for AMF Bowling Products and Sears in Buffalo, NY before going to work as bookkeeper for the Thousand Islands Girl Scout Council.

 

Helen attended First Mennonite Church of New Bremen.  She was a caregiver for Lewis County Hospice, and for several other senior citizens in the area.  Helen was a member of a winning bowling team and enjoyed playing cards and traveling with friends.  She loved her nieces and nephews and enjoyed spending time with them and hearing about their lives.

 

Burial will be at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday November 8, 2025 at Woodville Mennonite Cemetery.  Calling hours will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon on Saturday November 8, 2025 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.  A funeral service will follow the calling hours at 12:00 Noon at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Helen’s memory to Friends of Lewis County Hospice, PO Box 266, Lowville, NY  13367; or to Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways, Inc., 960 James St., Floor 2, Syracuse, NY  13203.
