Lewis County 2025 Local Election Information; Early Voting Opens October 25th with Election Day on November 4th

Lewis County, NY- Early in-person voting for the 2025 General Election opens October 25th across New York state, including here in Lewis County. Below we’ll break down local races on the ballot, provide sample ballots for viewing for each election district in Lewis County, along with details on early voting and election day voting.

WHAT’S ON THE BALLOT?

While there are no countywide, statewide or federal positions on the ballot this odd-numbered year, there is a proposition that all New Yorkers will be voting on, asking for approval of an amendment to allow an Olympic Sports Complex in Essex County on State Forest Preserve land.

All Lewis County voters will also be voting for four seats on the State Supreme Court in the 5th Judicial District. There are eight candidates vying for the four seats. Four candidates will appear on the Republican and Conservative party lines: James McClusky; Lydia Young; Gregory Amoroso; and Patrick Kilmartin, while four candidates will appear on the Democratic and Working Family party lines: Elizabeth Snyder Fortino; Candace L. Randall; John W. Dillon; and Gerald L. Snyder.

All ten seats on the Lewis County Board of Legislators are up for election, with just two contested races among the ten seats. Incumbents face challengers in District 3 (Republican incumbent Jessica Moser is challenged by independent candidate Wyatt M. Wagner) and District 9 (Republican incumbent Thomas Osborne is challenged by independent candidate Andrew J. Krokowski).

While there are many town and village positions up for election across Lewis County, the majority have just one candidate or, in some cases, no candidate at all on the ballot. Voters can choose to fill in a write-in choice for any position, which is how positions with no candidates will likely be decided, Below are the competitive races with multiple candidates:

·      Town of Croghan: Four candidates vying for two seats on the Town Council. Roger M. Buriss and Derek M. Gage will appear on the Democratic party line and Yvonne Hamlin Boliver and Michael D. Britton will appear on the Republican party line.

·      Town of Denmark: Two candidates vying for the District 3 seat on the Lewis County Board of Legislators. Republican incumbent Jessica Moser is challenged by independent candidate Wyatt M. Wagner.

·      Town of Greig: Two candidates vying for the District 9 seat on the Lewis County Board of Legislators. Republican incumbent Thomas Osborne is challenged by independent candidate Andrew J. Krokowski.

·      Town of Leyden: Four candidates vying for two seats on the Town Council. Bruce W. Myers will appear on the Democratic party line, Lois M. Compo and Dawn Rava Crofoot will appear on the Republican party line, and Steven M. Fox will appear on the Conservative party line.

·      Town of Lyonsdale: Two candidates vying for the District 9 seat on the Lewis County Board of Legislators. Republican incumbent Thomas Osborne is challenged by independent candidate Andrew J. Krokowski. Two candidates are vying for Highway Superintendent, with Shane T. Rogers and Kenneth R. Mooney appearing on independent lines on the ballot.

·      Town of Osceola: Three candidates vying for two seats on the Town Council. Shawn M. Bourne and Vickie A. Carpinelli will appear on the Republican party line, while Darlene M. Dean will appear on an independent line. Voters will also choose between two candidates to fill a vacancy on the Town Council. Raymond E. Still will appear on the Republican party line for that seat and Virginia A. Churchill will appear on the Conservative party line.

·      Town of Turin: Three candidates vying for two seats on the Town Council. Courtney M. D’Ambrosi will appear on the Democratic party line, while John P. Karelus and Collin F. Stewart will appear on the Republican party line. Voters will also choose a town Supervisor, with Daniel S. Szalech appearing on the Republican party line and Lynnette A. Parker appearing on an independent line.

Remember, even if there isn’t a competitive race in your town, all voters will be electing the four seats to the competitive State Supreme Court race in the 5th Judicial District as well as deciding on the statewide proposition on the ballot.
