The Lewis County 4-H Program, in partnership with Aldersgate Camp and Retreat Center, is thrilled to share the success of the first-ever Lewis County 4-H Day Camp held at Aldersgate. The week-long experience brought together the strengths, creativity, and shared mission of both organizations to provide an enriching, skill-building, and fun-filled environment for local youth.

Highlights included an interactive dairy education session, where youth explored different aspects of dairy production and even had the opportunity to make their own butter and ice cream. They also ventured into the fascinating world of fossils—including creating their own to take home—and gained practical knowledge about plant care by planting their own greenery, which will allow them to bring their new skills to life beyond camp.

Special guests from Ag in the Classroom and the ZooMobile only added to the excitement, offering interactive and educational experiences. Aldersgate’s signature activities such as swimming, canoeing and kayaking, a low ropes course, Gaga pits, archery, hiking through a rare bog ecosystem, and even a life-sized human Foosball game ensured campers not only had fun, but also built teamwork skills and a deeper appreciation for the natural world.

For many of our campers, this was their first time exploring such a diverse range of outdoor adventures and hands-on learning experiences. Camp offered more than just fresh air and physical activity—it created space for building confidence, forming friendships, and making lasting memories. It was a tremendous privilege to offer these meaningful experiences to the youth in our community. We extend our sincere thanks to the Lewis County Youth Bureau for their generous financial support, which enabled us to welcome even more children to camp to share in the excitement and growth it brings.

Plans are already underway for next year’s camp, and both organizations are eager to build upon this year’s success. We invite families and community members to stay tuned for updates on next year’s camp, as well as other exciting 4-H youth development opportunities throughout the year.
