New York State
issued a Drought Watch on Friday for 20 counties in the state, including
Lewis. A "watch" is the first of four levels of state drought
advisories (watch, warning, emergency and disaster), according to the State’s
drought monitoring web page. There are no statewide mandatory water use
restrictions in place under a drought watch, but residents are strongly
encouraged to voluntarily conserve water. Local public water suppliers may
require conservation measures, depending upon local needs and conditions.

Counties under the
drought watch include: Cayuga (northern portion),
Chautauqua, Clinton, Erie, Essex, Franklin, Genesee, Hamilton, Herkimer,
Jefferson, Lewis, Monroe, Nassau, Niagara, Orleans, Oswego, St. Lawrence,
Suffolk, Warren, Wayne.
