COPENHAGEN - Doris M. Young,
81, passed away early Sunday morning, July 27, 2025
at Samaritan Medical Center.
Doris was born on
September 27, 1943 in Lowville, the daughter of
the late Royal F. and Margaret R. (Oliver) Benware. She attended Lowville
Academy and Central School. She married Clyde A. Young on February 10, 1962 at Lowville Methodist Church with Rev. Robert
Malabar, officiating. Doris worked for Meda's while in high school. She
later cleaned houses for several families in Watertown and worked at Salmon
Run Mall. She retired from the mailroom at the Watertown Daily Times. Doris
and Clyde made their home in the town of Champion. The couple later had
their marriage blessed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She lost her beloved
husband, Clyde, on April 22, 2021, after 59 years of marriage.
She is survived
by her two sons, Jeffrey S. Young of Erwin, TN; Daniel A. (Denise) Young of
Copenhagen; her six grandchildren, her great grandson; her two sisters,
Barbara Gudridge of Homosassa, FL; and Brenda
Harris of Dunnellon, FL; and many loved nieces and nephews.
Doris is
predeceased by her great grandson, Johnathan Baker, her two brothers, Carl
W. Benware and Royal “Roy” F. Benware, her two sisters and their husbands,
Janet (Ron) Herzig and Joyce (Phil) Castor.
Doris was a
communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Copenhagen, and a past member of
the Tylerville Rescue Squad and Fire Department.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren and cherished the role of
homemaker and mother while raising her two boys. Doris enjoyed bowling and
bowled with the pros in Syracuse. Doris was glad to have spent time with
her two sisters’ in Florida these last six months.
A memorial
service will be held at the Sundquist Funeral Home, on Thursday, July 31st
at 5:00pm with Reverand Canon
Samuel P. Lundy, officiating. Calling hours for family and friends
will be Thursday afternoon from 3:00 until the time of the funeral. Private burial will be in Beaches Bridge Cemetery at a later date.
